Alex joined the department on the Classical Philology Track in 2024. Before joining the
department, he received his B.A in Classics with Honors from Brown University in 2024. His
senior thesis examined the three ekphraseis in the Old Norse Alexanders Saga, a 13th century
translation of Walter of Chatillon’s 12th century Latin Alexandreis, an epic on the life of
Alexander the Great. Alex’s research interests include epic poetry, allusion and translation
studies. He is also interested in the history of Latin in Scandinavia, including translations
between Latin and Old Norse or the modern vernaculars, and original Latin compositions from
the Middle Ages and the Early Modern period. Outside of the classroom, he enjoys running,
cooking, playing basketball, and the New York Mets.
