Event description:

Climate change and human response: the progress and pitfalls of an interdisciplinary trend.  We will be discussing climate change and human response in the premodern context—what have been some of the pitfalls of bringing together climate science and premodern history, and what have been the affordances of the interdisciplinary combination? What is important for a thorough study of the mechanisms of societal response to changing environment? As a component of the discussion, we will hear from Joe Morgan, who will deliver a talk titled “Why Weep for Osiris? Cosmology and the politics of the flood in Ptolemaic Egypt”.
