ARCHAIA Forum: Comparative Methods Workshop

Event time:
Friday, January 24, 2025 - 12:00pm
Location:
HQ 121 See map
Event description:
In this workshop we’ll explore what it means to think comparatively about pre-modern societies and discuss the kinds of approaches scholars have taken. The session will start with a short introductory presentation (focusing particularly on comparative history and art history) from our session lead (Jasmine Sahu-Hough), before opening the floor to wider discussion in which attendees will be invited to discuss the methods presented in relation to their own interests, as well as being welcome to share other methods from different disciplines. If you’re new to cross-cultural study in pre-modernity, this will be a great introduction! And if you’re been doing this sort of work already, we’re eager for you to share your experience and sharpen your thinking on the underlying methodologies of your work! There are two optional readings, which attendees are invited to peruse but which are not compulsory. Please get in touch with the organizers if you would like to have access to these.

Lunch will be provided - please sign up here to help us to gauge numbers! (Link here for Sign Up Form).
