“Aeschylus’ paintings”
This paper explores the convergence of the representational modes of theater and painting in Aeschylean drama. Through the explication of a key passage in the Agamemnon, I show how the staging of the stories of two young women are conceptualized through the interplay of dramaturgical techniques and the figurative arts. My reading then considers how the dynamics of painting, poetry, and pose at work in the drama may perhaps reflect broader anxieties about visual erasure in the cultural imaginary.

The talk will be preceded by a meet-and-greet over coffee at 3pm and followed by a reception. All are welcome.
