Maria Ma, ‘20

Jiaqi (Maria) Ma entered the Classics department in 2020 on the Classical Philology track. Her current interests revolve around the issues of reader/viewership, especially in Greek epigrams, and the mediation between the textual and the visual. She is also interested in the reception of ancient narratives in art, and has had many experimental archaeology mishaps.

Maria received her BA with Honors in Studio Art and Classics from Wesleyan University. She taught Latin and drawing at an independent school before completing an MA in Classics at the University of Notre Dame, where her thesis focused on the vivid voice and self-characterization of the deceased in Hellenistic funerary epigrams.

For the 2023-2024 academic year, Maria and Federico Maviglia are co-running the Greco-Roman Lunch talk series.
