Rafael Torre de Silva, ‘23

Rafael joined the department in the Classical Philology track in 2023. He received his BA with Honors in Classics at New York University. His senior thesis analyzed the Correspondence between Seneca and St. Paul, with an emphasis on its pseudoepistolary nature. His other major research project during his undergraduate career was a study of Horace’s Odes, where he argued for a progression of Bacchic symbolism. At the moment, Rafael is primarily interested in epistolography, both as its own genre in epistolary collections, as well as in the use of embedded letters in other forms of literature.
