Sam is a PhD student in the combined program in Classics and History. Her interests lie in Roman history and the coinage of the Early Principate. In particular, her research focuses on the imperial presence and administration in the provinces, primarily Roman Egypt, and what numismatics and other material evidence can tell us about the social and political climate of the Empire.
Sam holds BA degrees in Classics and Ancient Mediterranean Studies, History, and French and Francophone Studies with minors in Latin and Ancient Greek from The Pennsylvania State University. She also received an MA in Classics from Washington University in St. Louis, where her MA thesis focused on Alexandrian and Greek coinage under Emperor Nero and its relation to imperial administration in Roman Egypt.
